Professor Susan Young, BSc (Hons), DClinPsy, PhD, CSi, AFBPS, is a registered clinical and forensic psychologist, and a practitioner clinical neuropsychologist with over 25 years experience working in clinical academia. Since leaving clinical academia at the end of 2017, Susan has worked full time in private practice as the director of Psychology Services Limited (www.psychology-services.uk.com) and Psychology Innovations Limited, providing psycho-educational materials, resources and clinical/forensic services relating to the assessment and treatment of children, adolescents and adults with mental health problems and/or neurodevelopmental disorders.
Susan has a great deal of expertise specializing in clinical psychology (e.g. working with people with mental illness and disorder), forensic psychology (e.g. working with offenders, providing medico-legal assessments and giving evidence in court), neuropsychology (e.g. working with people with traumatic brain injury) and neurodevelopmental disorders (e.g. working with people with ADHD and Autism). She has held clinical academic positions at the Institute of Psychiatry, Imperial College, South London and Maudsley Trust (SLAM) and Broadmoor hospital. She was head of forensic R&D in West London Mental Health Trust. She is Honorary Professor of psychology at Reykjavik University.
Susan is involved in international research collaborations and has published over 200 articles in peer-reviewed research papers, books, book chapters, assessment tools and treatment programmes. These include the ACE/ACE+ clinical assessments of ADHD in children and adults (available in 22 languages), the Diagnostic Autism Spectrum Interview [DASI – available in 5 languages] and five cognitive behavioural therapy programmes developed for people of all ages who have cognitive, emotional, social and/or behavioural problems. She regularly runs international training courses in these tools and programmes
